"Talking about diversity, inclusion and equity is harder than one might think – even for a bunch of do-gooders who work for an organization like the Y. We are an organization that prided itself on being inclusive before inclusiveness was cool. Over the 6-month deep dive, Tami and Bernardo designed the sessions in a thoughtful and intentional way. Meaningful progress was made in every session.
As a group, we got more and more comfortable grappling with these issues over the weeks.
The tone of the meeting went from nervous and superficial in week one to listening and questioning in week 10. The knowledge we shared by the end of this deep dive allowed us to have rich problem-solving conversations that led to a plan that is already guiding our work. The time in this workshop was well worth it, and I would recommend it to any YMCA that is serious about expanding impact in the communities served.
